MANUFACTURING OVERVIEW

Our UTLX manufacturing plant, located in Alexandria, Louisiana, produces a variety of tank car types for lease or sale. With more than 125 years in the tank car business, we have established our place as the industry leader. Our integrated business model, which combines railcar manufacturing, leasing and repair, drives our success. We strive to exceed the needs of our customers by leveraging the scale of our manufacturing facility, our production capabilities, design expertise and commitment to quality.

ALEXANDRIA, LOUISIANA

ALEXANDRIA MANUFACTURING

Built in 2006, UTLX’s Alexandria plant is a 122-acre, state-of-the-art tank car manufacturing facility. Leveraging the in-line plant design and unique manufacturing processes, this facility produces standard tank car types in high volume.

In addition to standard tank car manufacturing, Alexandria performs the following operations on-site:

  • Steel normalization
  • Interior coating application
  • Cold form head processing

Alexandria is one of the largest employers in Central Louisiana and is located 120 miles from Baton Rouge and 200 miles from New Orleans.

SHELDON, TEXAS

 

 

SHELDON MANUFACTURING

Acquired by UTLX in 1995, the Sheldon tank car manufacturing facility is located on an expansive 240 acres. Operated primarily to produce specialty tank car types, Sheldon also manufactures all standard car types and performs modifications to existing tank cars, including HM-251 retrofits. In addition to tank car manufacturing, Sheldon performs the following operations on-site:

  • Sill and bolster fabrication serving both UTLX plants
  • Steel normalization
  • Cold form head processing

Sheldon is located 20 miles east of Houston in the Gulf Coast region, in close proximity to many of our customers.

MCKENZIE, TENNESSEE

MCKENZIE VALVE AND MACHINING

McKenzie Valve and Machining manufactures tank car components for new car production and maintenance of existing cars. McKenzie Valve understands the critical role service equipment plays during tank car operation and focuses on quality and reliability for every part shipped from the plant.
